Enriching lives through play, active recreation and sport
Sport Northland, is one of 14 Regional Sports Trusts nationwide (as a collective, known as Sportnet).
Sport Northland serves a population of over 180,000 people that includes a region with three district councils, one regional council, 34 secondary schools, 132 primary schools, 46 regional sports organisations and over 600 sport and recreation clubs.
Sport Northland’s core purpose is ‘Enriching lives through play, active recreation and sport’ and although its core business is the achievement of Sport NZ outcomes, Sport Northland endeavours to encourage people into play, active recreation and sport through all its areas of operation.
Te Huataki Waiora School of Health at the University of Waikato is home to international leaders in sport and gender research, with areas of expertise including women athlete health and injuries; girls and women in informal and action sports; sportswomen and the media, including social media; and gender, sport and development.
AUT’s Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ) is globally recognised for its high-impact research to optimise human health, wellbeing, organisation capability, physical performance and long-term athletic development. SPRINZ has internationally renowned experts, research groups, strong industry links, and an extensive postgraduate student cohort working across its interdisciplinary research areas.
