Transgender Inclusion in Community Sport Toolkit
The purpose of Ngā Wāhine Hākinakina o Aotearoa | Women in Sport Aotearoa (WISPA) is to be Aotearoa’s champion for gender equity in sport and physical activity. WISPA has the vision of Aotearoa New Zealand being the world’s most equitable sports system, Te Tiriti inspired.
In line with this vision and purpose, all people should have equitable opportunity to participate in community sport and recreation as a public good that benefits everyone. This includes ensuring that transgender, non-binary and gender diverse individuals can participate in community sport in a way that aligns with their gender identity and protects them from discrimination.
The onus should not be on the person to fit into an organisation but on the organisation to be inclusive.
WISPA believes that it is everyone’s job, as collective guardians of the sports system, to make sure that no one is left behind.
WISPA has developed this toolkit in partnership with InsideOUT Kōaro and funded by the Clare Foundation to support sports organisations in Aotearoa to take an inclusive approach to the participation of transgender, non-binary and gender diverse folks in community sport.
